A well-earned diversion from weeks of tired muscles, splintered picks and broken strings- an evening by the fire with an ice-cold Monster and a box-set 🙂

Hit & Run

Posted: February 24, 2014 in Uncategorized

You snuck back in
the side door
and told not a soul
but me.

Electrocuting impulse
Jolts me
From safety
And I cling to my conviction
That cigarettes and coffee
Could change anything.

One lie chases another
And the other
As I lie awake
Disreputing reason
after reason
I must not fall
As inevitably
I will.

The Emperor’s New Clothes

Posted: February 23, 2014 in Uncategorized

Audacious tapestry
Fit for a king
Woven from paisley
And tropical ties
Smothering deafening
Silent screams

Lord and Lady Fermanagh
Bound to the court
Shield indecency
To shroud indignity
And silence the plebs
In far-flung fields

Our oweness to witness
The emperor exposed
Through the folds
Of his lustrous cloak

We are not lords
And we are not ladies
And we do not fear the scandal of truth
Our duty to be
The voice in the crowd
Hushed by the gentry
No more.

Bloody Valentine’s again

Reckoning has arrived

Parapetted incubus

Overhanging, poised

to drain me of my ether

Until I’m just a bloody valentine

Returned to sender

Closing Time

Ponder dark the cloudless sky
And percolate
All that I have left behind
All that never was
Minutes seep
To burnt-up hours
Out of

Mutilated flesh
into pristine polyester
Shrivelled fingers choke the wheel
In my place-
The inevitable destination.

Giants pace lonely streets
Where spectres lurk
in roadkill take-aways
Sable depths swallow
The abyss above
Dousing the lights
Drowning the stars

Water Hens

Water hens
We take to it like ducks
Shake the floods from our feathers
For drinking games
Under the bridge
Tidal waves
Reversing heights
Someone’s got her wings in a flap!

Twist/ Inverted

A flurry of bolts

Claret and gold

Ready to swoop for scattered seed

At the first break

in the rain

Tightroping the tipping point

of fatal

Rose Lanterns

Elation pops

And strings fall apart.

But not today.

We craft your destiny

And make a mess of it-

Order flung to the sky

Tumbling feathers

The world has changed somehow.
